Helping a student

Miles & I knew of a college student who was sick with asthma and flu and was too weak to go to the grocery store.  So we picked up a few grocery items she needed and took them to her.  One truly is more blessed to give than receive.

I wish we could have done more but she lives a long way from our house and we did not have any time left to do more.  I hope we do this again.

Showers of Blessings

Below are a few comments from Thank You cards that we received today:

Dear HP,
“A shower of blessings you were to us."

Just want to thank you and let you know that I really appreciated all the work that your people did Sunday morning for me. They were a wonderful blessing.
Thanks again,
Barbara

P.S. and thank them for praying for us.”

Dear HP,
I can’t thank you enough for all the good help Sunday in preparing my home for the winter. Everyone worked hard – all were appreciated.

Thanks again, Mrs. Weatherly

Burning Brush

God spoke to Moses through a burning bush. I don't know if God has ever used burning brush, but that's what one team spent their day doing on Sunday. I took a few friends to help me do some major clearing at some property that needed some attention. There was lots of storm damage remaining. We got a lot done and are going back next Sunday to do some brushhogging. The lady was very appreciative of our help.

Playing Possum

Everyone was doing their individual tasks of raking, moving, and pulling weeds, when there was a loud scream from the nearby carport. Earlene Hart emerged breathlessly proclaiming that there was a possum in the trash can in the car port. Everyone came running to check it out. Sure enough a possum had climbed into a trash can and could not get out. Earlene had been the first to spot it. Luckily we had some possum wranglers on our team. John Burgett and Jack Foreman demonstrated their well honed skill by lassoing the rascally thing. Earlene was saved by the possum wranglers and we were able to complete our day of service task without fear of the savage beast.

'Everyone needs a hero" and Earlene has two of them. Thanks John and Jack. I can almost hear them taunting the possum, "I'll be your huckleberry."

Team 2's Story

Our team had a great time serving together. We helped an elderly lady. While we were there, she had me open a bottle of pills for her (she is very frail). She said that she usually had to take them over to a local church near her. When we left she was very thankful and tearful. She said that with her age, and since her husband passed on, she wasn't able to do stuff like that for herself. We told her we were glad we were able to help and that we hoped we could help again.

"I can't tell you how much this means to me."

I wish you could have seen and heard a lady that my team helped. She must have thanked us ten times. She kept saying, “You have no idea what this means to us...”
After losing her husband and father, she now spends her days caring for her elderly mother, who is fighting cancer, and recovering from recent surgery. She’s pretty overwhelmed with life, and she got teary-eyed every time she talked about her situation.
We huddled-up and prayed with her before we left. And thanks to some good painters and hard workers on our team, we left her house looking so much better.
It was such a blessing to serve.
